JOB TITLE: Business Improvement and Development Manager



RATE: Negotiable


Under the direction of the MTE President, the Business Improvement and Development Manager will serve as a member of the President's Leadership Team. The position will be responsible for leading planning, new revenue stream implementation, project development, and spearheading efforts to standardize organizational discipline related to reporting and data based decision making. As a member of the President's Leadership team, the Business Improvement and Development Manager will work across all functions of the business in a consultative manner and will also play a crucial role in growing the business.


1. Lead efforts with collaborative partners in the forest products, lumber, and new revenue stream industries

2. Serve as MTE representative on industry councils, associations, and with other groups as assigned by the President

3. Lead specific grant writing, project development, and collaborative planning efforts as assigned

4. Lead specific physical plant expansion planning projects

5. Develop and/or participate in the development of feasibility studies, actionable business strategies, and other similar activities that promote the expansion of MTE into new or expanded markets and that align with short-term and long-term objectives of the company

6. Work closely with HR, the COO, and President's staff to develop pre-duty training and ongoing training programs for plant staff aimed at increasing employee knowledge of wood sciences and adding value to lumber during processing

7. Oversee any grants assigned, completing goals and objectives and activity reports as required

8. Develop tools to assist with identifying, tracking, and projecting costs and opportunities to reduce costs across the company

9. Analyze internal operations and identify areas of process enhancement

10. Assist the President with completing all goals established for the company and by MTE departments

11. Assist the President with organizational planning, development, and reogranization

12. Assist the President with developing the planning  documents, financing plans, and construction planning for a new sawmill

13. Adhere to the Management Team Professional Expectations 

14. Adhere to company, Federal, State, and Tribal business requirements, enforcing compliance and taking action when necessary

15. Supervise staff or future staff assigned to this position

16. Other Similar duties as assigned

-Your leadership experience has provided you with the ability to connect all the dots and bring efficiencies for continuous improvement-you aren't afraid to have those hard conversations


-Leading and coordinating through others efforts to drive sustainable, incremental growth

-Monitoring analyzing new grant, collaborations, and growth opportunities and recommending action to the President

-Providing strong leadership-training, coaching, nurturing and removing roadblocks when necessary

-Acting as the liaison between consultants and partners with MTE

-Making a positive contribution to our mission


1. Master's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering or related field combined with five (5) years' experience in executive level management

2. In lieu of a Master's Degree, a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Management, Business Administration, Finance, Engineering or related field and ten (10) years' experience in executive level management

3. A solid grasp of the lumber and forestry industry

4. Leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity

5. Be able to diagnose problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues

If applicants are previous employees of MTE, they must have a positive past work record and history of positive job performance.
