SCOPE OF WORK:
This position shall be primarily responsible for executing technical forest pest management work (i.e., insects, diseases, and invasive plants) under direction of the forest health forester and forest health technician-A. In addition, the position assists the forestry program with other tasks, as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must have the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the following:
- Forest pest management methods (prevention, early detection and rapid response/survey, control, monitoring, and restoration).
- Record keeping and data collection/entry.
- Chainsaw, machinery, plow truck operation and maintain equipment.
- Fell trees and clear brush safely.
- Mix/apply pesticides, inventory pesticide supplies, and order supplies.
- Maintain contact with staff, Tribal leaders and community, and contractors for the purpose of explanation, cooperation, and inspecting and evaluating operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works outdoors independently for extended periods in adverse terrain and weather conditions throughout the year. Must be capable of walking cross country for extended distances (up to 5 miles) and periods of time (up to 8 hours). Required to wear necessary personal safety protection when in the forest or mill areas. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. Must operate an ATV for extended periods of time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in the field of forest or other ecosystem protection (fire, insects, disease, or weed management)
- Required to pass WI commercial forestry pesticide applicators exam during the introductory period.
- Required to pass FAA Part 107 test for drone pilot certification during the introductory period.
- Pass training in chainsaw operation within one year.
- If applicants are previous employees of Menominee Tribal Enterprises, they must have a positive past work record and history of positive job performance.
