Knife Grinder/Chipper Operator

JOB TITLE: Knife Grinder/Chipper Operator

SUPERVISOR: Sawmill Supervisor

STATUS: RFT

RATE: TBD

 

SCOPE OF WORK:

Responsible for grinding chipper knives to ensure maximum operating efficiency of chipper and monitoring and operate chipping machinery

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must of the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the following;

1. Set up chipper, chip feeder and sawdust feeder to proper chipping specifications

2. Reset all moving parts in chipper room and shakers, including chains, shakers, feeders, etc

3. Grinds chipper knives to proper specifications

4. Performs preventive maintenance for chipper and sawdust equipment

5. Maintains a working inventory of parts for replacement as needed. This includes grinding wheels and cooling lubricants

6. Change and set bed knives as needed

7. Maintains working area in a clean and orderly condition

8. Required to monitor chip and sawdust trailers and switch trailers when needed and inform sawmill supervisor

9. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in extreme hot, cold, noisy, dusty work environment. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. Must wear all appropriate safety apparel and equipment and comply with all safety policies and practices of MTE

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires the completion of high school diploma or equivalent and 0-3 months preferred experience in sawmill operations or maintenance. Requires general mechanical knowledge and skill in operating basic hand maintenance tools and measuring devices. Six months knife grinding experience preferred. Must possess good work ethic with excellent work attendance and be a team player.
