JOB TITLE: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

SUPERVISOR: President

RATE: Negotiable

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the MTE President, the COO will serve as a member of the President's Leadership Team. The COO will be responsible for, among other duties, leading efforts to improve efficiency, drive the adoption of data based decision making across the company, and improve equipment and technology of the company in order to drive profitability. The COO will work across all functions of the business in a consultative manner and will also play a crucial role in growing the business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Lead efforts to upgrade MTE's manufacturing, sales, company store, inventory management, and other software systems into a single coordinated platform.

2. Work closely with managers and supervisors to upgrade manufacturing equipment, assess and improve efficiency of manufacturing process, and update business processes in the plant to reduce costs of manufacturing lumber in accordance with company goals.

3. Develop and/or participate in the development of feasibility studies, actionable business strategies, and other similar activities that promote the expansion of MTE into new or expanded markets and that align with short-term and long-term objectives of the company.

4. Streamline the packaging, processing, and delivery of lumber orders to drive quality of products through accurate orders, visually pleasant orders, and timely delivery.

5. Work closely with HR and President's staff to develop pre0duty training and ongoing training programs for plant staff aimed at increasing employee knowledge of wood sciences and adding value to lumber during processing

6. Oversee any grants assigned to the COO, completing goals and objectives and activity reports as required

7. Oversee annual budget process in cooperation with the CFO

8. Oversee safety and training programs for both plant and logging contractors

9. Oversee the company's property, casualty, and risk management programs and insurance policies

10. Develop tools to assist with identifying, tracking, and projecting costs and opportunities to reduce cost across the company.

11. Analyze internal operations and identify areas of process enhancement 

12. Assist the President with completing all goals established for the company and by MTE departments

13. Assist the President with organizational planning, development, and reorganization

14. Assist the President with developing the planning documents, financing plans, and construction planning for a new sawmill

15. Adhere to the Leadership Team Professional Expectations

16. Adhere to company, Federal, State, and Tribal business requirements, enforcing compliance and taking action when necessary

17. Other similar duties as assigned.

WHAT YOUR DAYS LOOK LIKE:

-Leading and coordinating through others all manufacturing and production operations to drive sustainable, incremental growth

-Monitoring, analyzing, and improving existing processes and systems to ensure we are operating at maximum efficiency

- Proactively communicating with multiple departments regarding markets, log delivery, lumber production, customer delivery schedules and any adverse business impact or service interruption 

-Providing strong leadership-training, coaching, nurturing and removing roadblocks when necessary

-Acting as the liaison between engineers, technicians and customers to build fluid and positive relationships

-Making a positive contribution to our mission

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master's Degree in Industrial Management, Business Administration, Finance, Engineering or related field combined with Five (5) years' experience in executive level management in a lumber manufacturing or similar industrial setting.

2. In lieu of a Master's Degree, a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Management, Business Administration, Finance, Engineering or related field and ten (10) years' experience in executive level management in a lumber manufacturing, similar industrial setting, or a leadership in a complex organization

3. An individual, who lacks the formal education required but is convinced this is the job for them, should apply provided they bring a minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in the lumber industry AND Submit two letters of reference from their current or former C-Suite Level supervisors in the lumber or related industries with their application

4. A solid grasp of the lumber and forestry industry

5. Leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity

6. Be able to diagnose problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must not have been terminated for cause from any position within the last five (5) years.

If applicants are previous employees of Menominee Tribal Enterprises, they must have a positive past work record and history of positive job performance.

Applicants will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, reference check, and background check.

Direct Reports: Lumber Operations Manager, Sawmill Operations Manager, Plant Readiness Manager, Timber Harvest Administration, Roads Manager.
