JOB TITLE: Deck Scaler

SUPERVISOR: Sawmill Supervisor

STATUS: RFT

SCOPE OF WORK:

This position shall be responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the log conveyor, and the accurate scanning and accounting of logs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must have the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the following:

1. Conveyor equipment and push button controls for moving logs from the debarker and efficiently into the sawmill

2. Trim all logs with chainsaw to appropriate lengths to prevent back-up through the sawmill

3. Must use the correct lifting and log moving techniques to prevent injuries

4. Must perform computer data entry and transfer of data

5. Carriages, hoists, chains, pins, and other conveyor related equipment

6. Required to accurately record downtime of headrigs

7. Operate and monitor log conveyor to prevent potential backups, twisting, overlap, and damage of logs or equipment

8. Utilize handheld computer scanner quickly and accurately on log tags

9. Manually record the amount of logs entering the sawmill when scanner is not functioning, or tags are missing

10. Assist maintenance with equipment repairs

11. Recognize maintenance needs of equipment and report to supervisor

12. Recognize log size and kick to appropriate headrig for processing

13. Maintain a clean and neat work area

14. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Works in extreme hot, cold, noisy, dusty work environment. Must be able to climb stairs and catwalk on a frequent basis. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. Must wear all appropriate safety apparel and equipment and comply with all safety policies and practices of MTE

QUALIFICATIONS: 

At a minimum, must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be familiar with log species. Experience with industrial, forestry, or agricultural equipment and scanning equipment is preferred. Must possess good work ethic with excellent work attendance and be a team player
