SCOPE OF WORK:


The Log Truck Operator / CDL Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating commercial motor vehicles, including log trucks, loaders, and tractor-trailers, to transport logs, pulpwood, and freight between forests, mills, and customer locations. This position supports both local logging operations and over-the-road (OTR) deliveries.
The driver works closely with timber harvest staff, logging contractors, and customers to ensure timely, safe, and efficient transport. The role includes loading and unloading materials, maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations, and providing professional customer service during deliveries.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must have the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the following:
 Operate log trucks, tractor-trailers, loaders, and related equipment safely and efficiently
 Transport logs, pulpwood, and freight to mills, job sites, and customer locations in a timely manner
 Load and unload materials, including operating loaders when required
 Verify load accuracy, secure loads properly, and ensure correct delivery destinations
 Follow all DOT regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, and company policies
 Maintain driver logs and required documentation (fuel, mileage, manifests, wait times, etc.)
 Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and perform light maintenance
 Coordinate with supervisors and maintenance staff to address mechanical issues
 Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and team members
 Report accidents, incidents, or citations immediately with proper documentation
 Maintain responsibility for all equipment, materials, and electronic devices assigned
 Adapt to both local hauling (woods/mill operations) and over-the-road delivery schedules
 Perform physical job requirements, including lifting up to 75 lbs
 Complete additional duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:


 Fast-paced, physically demanding work environment
 Exposure to outdoor elements including heat, cold, dust, and noise
 Work performed in forest environments, mill sites, highways, and customer locations
 Must wear required safety gear and follow all company safety policies


QUALIFICATIONS:
 High school diploma or equivalent
 Minimum of nine (9) months of verifiable CDL driving experience within the last seven (7) years
 Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
 Must be at least 21 years of age
 Ability to pass DOT physical, drug screening, background check, and motor vehicle record review
 Must meet company insurance requirements
 Experience operating a log loader preferred (minimum one year strongly preferred)
 CDL certification from an accredited program preferred
 Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work independently and as part of a team


COMPENSATION
 Hourly wage based on experience and qualifications
 Incentive pay available based on volume of lumber/logs hauled (e.g., per load, per ton, or per thousand board feet, as determined by company policy)
 Overtime pay in accordance with applicable laws and company policy
